Mercerized Cotton
Mercerized cotton is a special cotton yarn or fabric that has been refined through a chemical treatment (known as mercerization with caustic soda). This causes the fibers to swell and change their structure: they become significantly more tear-resistant, retain their shape better, and acquire a silky, wash-resistant sheen.
Additionally, mercerized cotton absorbs dyes much more intensely and evenly and is less prone to shrinkage during washing.
